Approximately 1,000 midshipmen will receive commissions into the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who is a retired four-star Army general and former commander of the U.S. Central Command, gave the keynote commencement speech for the U.S. Naval Academy graduation and commissioning ceremony at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Friday.
At the ceremony, around 1,000 midshipmen who made up the Class of 2024 received their commissions as ensigns in the U.S. Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps.
The Naval Academy was founded in 1845 and graduated its first class in 1854. Commissioning Week is filled with traditions, including the final dress parade of the school year on Worden Field. The Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron performs a flyover during the graduation ceremony.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to guide, strengthen, and protect the newly commissioned naval and marine service members.
- For Secretary Austin to seek the Lord’s wisdom as he heads the Defense Department.
